The Mercedes-Benz A-Class is a line of luxury C-segment hatchbacks and sedans that packs a lot of technology and performance in the brand’s most compact vehicles. While the A-Class was available in both sedan and hatchback variants in Malaysia, Mercedes has discontinued the regular A-Class hatchbacks when the locally assembled completely knocked down (CKD) sedans were introduced in 2021. The A-Class goes against vehicles such as the Audi A4, BMW 2 Series, and BMW 3 Series.
Variants
There are two variants of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class available in Malaysia. They are the Mercedes-Benz A 200 Sedan Progressive and the Mercedes-Benz A 250 Sedan AMG.
Pricing
The price of a new Mercedes-Benz A-Class in Malaysia starts from RM220,458 for the Mercedes-Benz A 200 Progressive variant and RM243,857 for the Mercedes-Benz A 250 AMG variant.
Colors Available
There are five colors available on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. They are Polar White, Denim Blue, Iridium Silver, Mountain Grey, and Cosmos Black.
Interior
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class has a futuristic and luxurious exterior with twin 10.25-inch displays: one being the instrument panel and the other, being the infotainment display. The twin displays, coupled with the illuminated turbine-inspired air-conditioning vents and ambient lighting gives the cabin a sporty, fighter jet look.
Exterior
On the exterior, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class has a trapezoidal-shaped diamond grille and high-performance LED headlights with adaptive high beam. The A 200 Progressive variant has 17-inch aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels, while the A 250 AMG variant has 18-inch AMG alloy wheels. Other features include a multifunction sports steering wheel in Nappa leather, head-up display for the driver, powered front seats, as well as optional seat climate control and additional upholstery.
Cabin Space
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class measures 4,549 mm long, 1,796 mm wide, and 1,446 mm tall. It also has 405 liters of boot space which is expandable by folding down the rear seats.
Infotainment System
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class has a 10.25-inch high-resolution touchscreen media display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The infotainment system uses the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) interface and features a voice control system as well as a touchpad controller located in front of the gear lever.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class has two engine options. The A 200 variant is powered by a 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 163 PS of max power at 5,500 rpm and 250 Nm of max torque at 1,620 rpm. With this engine, the A 200 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds and has a fuel consumption of 5.5 L/100 km. On the other hand, the A 250 variant produces 224 PS of max power at 5,800 rpm and 350 Nm of max torque at 1,800 rpm. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and has a fuel consumption of 6.2 L/100 km. Both engines are paired with a seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission (DCT)
Besides the standard safety features, the A-Class sedan has a driving assistance package with several advanced safety features. These include Active Distance Assist Distronic, Active Steering Assist, Active Brake Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Sport Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, and a 360-degree camera parking assistance. It also has URBAN GUARD Plus vehicle protection, which is an all-round monitoring system for the car.
